Cleveland-  At a news conference today Governor Taft, Senate President Finan and Speaker Householder concurred that they would not support gambling expansion in the form of video slot machines in Ohio racetracks.

In response to their decision, Ohio Roundtable President David Zanotti issued the following statement:

“We appreciate Governor Taft’s leadership on this matter and applaud Senate President Finan and Speaker Householder for taking a step in the right direction by stopping plans to turn Ohio racetracks into casinos.   This issue has been settled twice by Ohio voters and it does not need to be visited a third time.  We hope these leaders will continue in the direction of freeing the Ohio budget from the failed economics of gambling.”

Ohio Roundtable is a non-profit, non-partisan public policy organization founded in 1980 with offices in Solon and Columbus.  Roundtable helped lead the campaigns to defeat casino gambling in both 1990 and 1996.  Roundtable was joined by then Governor George Voinovich and Attorney General Betty Montgomery for the 1996 victory.
