Public Policy:  Trick or Treat?
Information gathered by the American Policy Roundtable

In the field of public policy, numerous solutions are offered to address important issues, such as school funding, embryonic stem cell research, and healthcare.  Often, certain policies are hyped as being the best solution.  However, after further analysis, they tend to be exposed as misguided policies resulting from political agendas. In the end, they cause more harm than good. Much like Charlie Brown, who received only a rock for Halloween, the promises of misguided public policies may end up being a trick, rather than a treat.

School Funding

The call for increased school funding
is heard throughout the United States, including Ohio.  However, a recent analysis of two major municipal school districts in Ohio reveals that over the past ten years, school spending has increased more than double the rate of inflation, while enrollment levels have decreased.  To learn more about the issue of school funding, click here.

HPV Vaccinations

Recently, a widespread campaign arose, dedicated to creating legislation which mandated that all girls entering sixth grade receive the HPV Vaccine.  Not only does the vaccine target only a select number of viruses which cause cervical cancer, the potential side effects are unknown and  require further research.  The mandatory nature of the proposed legislation  also violates the rights of parents to exercise control over decisions concerning their child's health.  More information on the HPV Vaccine can be found at www.aproundtable.org.

Embryonic Stem Cell Research

From newspapers and magazines, to government leaders at the state and federal level, embryonic stem cells are often promoted as the best solution to finding cures and treatments for numerous health conditions.  However, recent studies and news reports reveal that breakthroughs are not occurring with embryonic stem cell experimentation, but with stem cells derived from alternative sources such as adults, umbilical cord blood, and amniotic sac fluid.  These alternatives are not rejected by the recipient and do not involve the destruction of human life.  Listed below are numerous resources which provide more detailed information on stem cell research.

Healthcare

"If the government controls your healthcare, the government controls your life."  Dave Zanotti

Whether Democrat or Republican, politicians from both sides of the political  spectrum are promoting increased government involvement in the healthcare of Americans.  Rationing of health care and a decrease in quality will inevitably result from this approach.  Find out more on health care issues
