Richard Dawkins

Biography
The son of an
English soldier,
Dawkins was born in
Nairobi, Kenya, in
1941. In 1949,
his family returned
to England
permanently, where
Dawkins went on to
attend Oxford
University, earning
several degrees,
including a
doctorate.
After completing his
education, Dawkins
began his lecturing
career at the
University of
California at
Berkeley, where he
was a Professor of
Zoology from
1967-1969.
In
1970, Dawkins returned to his alma mater, where
he is currently a lecturer in Zoology.
Dawkins is the author of numerous written works,
including his first release, The Selfish Gene
(1976), as well as River Out of Eden, The
Blind Watchmaker, and The Extended Phenotype.
In 2006, Dawkins released his most successful
and controversial work, The God Delusion,
in which he attacks both religion and the belief
that the world is too complex to have formed
from evolutionary processes.
Dawkins is married to actress
and artist Lalla Ward, and has served as
Vice-President of the British Humanist
Association since 1996. He has been
interviewed by numerous media outlets, including
the BBC, Forbes magazine, and National Public
Radio.
