Wayne Shepherd
Wayne Shepherd: Welcome to The Public Square®. Our
host is Dave Zanotti of the American Policy Roundtable. Dave, is there a
role for local congregations and Pastors to play in the unfolding healthcare
debate?
Dave Zanotti: Wayne, how can people of faith stay silent on a matter
of policy that will impact every person in America? How can we sit on the
sidelines and let someone else decide?
WS: But isn’t this a complicated issue? And we're asking a lot of
pastors, how are they going to find the time?
DZ: Fair question. I think the best way for anyone to decide if they
should or should not get involved in this issue is to read the parable of the
Good Samaritan. Then take a moment to think of someone you love, and imagine
them in real medical need. How would you feel if they were left on the side of
the road—perhaps to die?
The love of neighbor has to compel us to involvement on this one, Wayne.
There is simply no way to duck this debate. Good news is, there are plenty of
resources available to help and to help in a hurry.
WS: Now you've been researching this for a long time, haven't you?
DZ: We've got over 15 years invested. We’ve posted a whole library
online to help anyone get up to speed on this debate in a hurry. For example,
you can just go and read
Dr. Chuck
McGowen's blogs on healthcare.
WS: I've done that.
DZ: And you'll be smarting than the average bear in an amazingly
short amount of time. And there's all sort of stuff on our website - there's
videos, there's
radio
programs, there's resources from all kind of sources. We've tried to
ask the really difficult questions. Once you get enough information, it's not
that tough to figure out.
WS: Very helpful. For Dave Zanotti, I'm Wayne Shepherd.
Thanks for being with us this week on The Public Square®.
