Wayne Shepherd
Wayne Shepherd: We know healthcare is on the agenda for
Congress. But where do things stand right now? This is The Public Square®
with Dave Zanotti. I'm Wayne Shepherd. We come to you from the
American Policy Roundtable.
Dave Zanotti: Numbers, numbers, there's healthcare numbers
everywhere, Wayne. And we've just gotten back from another trip on Capitol
Hill. And I want to tell you some of the things that are going on behind
the scenes. This should concern everyone. There is a movement afoot
to get a healthcare bill passed as fast as possible, June, July, no later than
October.
WS: Do you think we'll be in one of those situations where they
won't have time to read the bill again?
DZ: That's what I'm really worried about, Wayne, is that they'll
put some, coble some pieces together, and only a few people from the star
chamber will really know what it is that they ultimately want to accomplish.
WS: This is a huge critical issue.
DZ: Well, it is. You've got a 100 million people that are
already in federal healthcare, either in Medicaid or Medicare. 160 million
people who get there healthcare outside of the government through working
arrangements at some level. Now the government has got enough trouble
taking care of Medicaid and Medicare, why should we go ahead and give them 160
million more cases to be worried about, especially if we don't even have time to
read the legislation? So we're watching every step of this. It's not
because we're pro- any group whatsoever. It's because we believe in loving
your neighbor and in Constitutional law. And once you start messing around with
people's health and get Congress involved, things can get very, very messy.
So we're watching every single day what's going. And we're going to try
very hard to keep the people up-to-speed so you can talk with your members of
Congress and let them know how you feel about your healthcare.
WS: The best way we have to communicate with you is through our
website. This has been The Public Square® with Dave
Zanotti. I'm Wayne Shepherd. We'll see you next time.
