How Green is Charlie?

The Public Square Radio Broadcast - How Green is Charlie? America’s number one green governor has a little problem.

To be fair and respectful to an elected governor—let me state up front: Governor Charlie Crist of Florida has the right to believe whatever he wants about global warming. Governor Crist has become a Global Warming Crusader. He is working hard to reconstruct Florida law and policy to fit his agenda. He is the tag team partner of Governor Schwarzenegger. Together these governors match up well with Al Gore.

Only problem is, the Governor likes a warm pool and a very cool home. In Florida that means a lot of energy is being used to heat his pool and keep the Governor’s Residence so cold it is called a meat cooler.

The hypocrisy is not really the point. We are all hypocrites at some point where our beliefs don’t match our conduct. The bigger problem for the Governor is this—if he really believes people cause global climate change then there is a lot more bad news ahead for Florida. Every citizen of Florida depends on air conditioning for survival. Without air conditioning, Florida would be mostly undeveloped swampland.

If the Governor is really being honest with his science and agenda he has to come out of the meat cooler and tell everyone in Florida, there are very difficult days ahead. Not only is the state a billion dollars behind in revenue, with housing dropping off the map, and taxes and insurance rates out of control—but its time to shut off the air conditioning.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail.
