School Choice
Information from the American Policy Roundtable
ROUNDTABLE & SCHOOL CHOICE
Since
1995 the Roundtable has been engaged in the
ongoing discussion about school choice across
the nation. The Roundtable was involved in the
legislative language of the Cleveland
Scholarship and Tutoring Program and remained
involved the program through six different court
proceedings including the final victory for
school choice before both the Ohio and United
States Supreme Courts. In the final Supreme
Court decision affidavits submitted by
Roundtable President David Zanotti are
specifically cited.
As
an organization dedicated to a principled
approach to public policy the Roundtable
rationale for supporting school choice can be
summarized as:
-
Children are not the property of the State.
-
Parents remain the best source for academic
decisions for their children.
-
Children whose parents cannot possibly
afford alternative education should not be
shut out of academic opportunity.
-
All
taxpayers are a part of the public school
system because they all help pay for
schools. If parents, voters, and or
taxpayers choose to restructure educational
models they have the right to do so.
-
Citizens, through their elected officials or
direct ballot initiative, have the right to
create alternative academic opportunities
and funding vehicles such as but not limited
to scholarships, vouchers, charter schools
and tax credits.
