In response to the President’s actions today changing federal policy on embryonic stem cell research, David Zanotti, CEO of the American Policy Roundtable and Dr. Charles McGowen, Chief Medical Advisor for the Roundtable, issued the following statement:
“The President’s policy is very difficult to understand in light of years of progress in the realm of autologous stem cell research. Embryonic stem cell research is frozen in failure all over the world while autologous stem cells are providing real cures without the problems of immune system rejections. Throwing tax dollars into embryonic stem cell research is a monumental waste of resources.
It is unfortunate for taxpayers that President Obama has chosen to fund an area of research so bankrupt in results. It is clear that this decision has much more to do with the President’s political positions than good science or fiscal integrity. We just wish there was some way to hold politicians and researchers accountable for such unethical and fraudulent experimentation with human lives.”
The American Policy Roundtable, founded in 1980, is as non-partisan, independent public policy organization. The Roundtable daily broadcast The Public Square is heard in nine states and the week-end edition premieres nationwide in April 2009. David Zanotti has served at the Roundtable since 1985. Dr. Charles McGowen is a retired physician, former Air Force Surgeon, and Medical School Professor.
