What's the Issue?
School choice is the process of empowering parents to choose the best school for their child. In Ohio, we currently have two forms of school choice operating: a scholarship (voucher) plan and a charter school plan.

The Scholarship Plan is functioning in Cleveland as a pilot program. There are roughly 4,500 children in the plan from grades K-8. Charter schools, which are publicly funded schools run by private boards, are operating in the largest 21 school districts in Ohio.

Ohioans are in favor of school choice in general. Click here for a recent Ohio poll on this issue (in Adobe PDF format).

What is the Current Debate?
The opposition to school choice is fierce. Teachers unions radically oppose the idea of changing the status quo and are mobilized to oppose every aspect of school choice. Click here to read the Ohio Poll on education and school choice.
