1802 Ohio Constitution ratified with no gambling prohibitions included.
1851 Ohio Constitution revised. Article XV Sec. 6 bans lotteries and sale of lottery tickets forever.
1900 Gambling illegal in all states in the nation.
1931 Reputed mobster Bugsy Siegel opens first casino in Las Vegas, Nevada
1964 New Hampshire is the first state in modern times to adopt a state lottery.
1971 State Representative Ron Mottl, D-Parma, spearheads a lobbying campaign to institute a state lottery.
1973 State Issue 1, which created the Ohio State Lottery Commission, passes by a 2-1 margin.
1974 The first lottery tickets go on sale in August.
1975 Ohio Constitution changed to permit the Ohio Lottery.
1976 New Jersey legalizes casinos in Atlantic City.
1979 Indian gambling begins in Florida.
1980 Casino gambling expands across America, rejected by Ohio Legislature.
1983 A constitutional amendment passes that specifies lottery profits can only go to help fund primary, secondary, vocational and special education in the state of Ohio.
1987 Debut of the Ohio Lottery TV game show, Cash Explosion.
1990 Ohio voters reject casino amendment by large margin.
1996 Ohio voters reject Issue 1, a Constitutional amendment to legalize Riverboat gambling, defeated by 62 percent to 38 percent.
2001 Proposal for Racetrack Casinos fails in Ohio Senate Committee of Ways & Means.

Ohio General Assembly passes Governor Taft's request for Mega Millions lottery expansion in HB405.

2002 Ohio Roundtable, Ohio Methodist Church, and coaltion sue to have Powerball declared unconstitutional.

Proposal for Racetrack Casinos fails in Ohio Senate Committee of Agriculture.

Franklin County Court agrees with plaintiffs in Roundtable v. Taft and strikes down major provision in MegaMillions lottery provision, forcing General Assembly to return lottery proceeds to education funding.

Ohio House of Representatives' Proposal to link Sales Tax Increase to Racetrack Casinos fails in the Ohio Senate.

Racetrack Casinos proposed as a Constitutional Amendment.   Hearings held in the Ohio Senate Committee of State and Local Government and Veteran's Affairs.
